Highbarrow:
The early large post gives some locations in the town.
As we get more familiar with the town, DM's can introduce these places or provide their own ones.
for example: the "Blue Fire Inn" replaced the "Wanderer's Rest".

Prestige classes

Multiclass XP penalty:
Prestige classes count as normal classes for determination of XP penalties, except when the prestige class has been completed.
e.g.
A 5-level prestige class is counted when determining penalties until the 5th level of the prestige class has been taken.

Frenzied Berserker:
When in a frenzy, if an Frenzied Berserker can see an enemy but is unable to reach them to attack, each round they must make a will save or turn on the nearest target.
The will save begins at DC10 and increments by 1 for each round the Frenzied Berserker is unable to reach her enemy.

so mage(6) and firemage(10) is ok.

But mage(6), firemage(10), icemage(1) will give a 20% exp cost to each level until you get to mage(9), firemage(10) and icemage(9) and so have no more then one level apart.

Actually, reading through DMG.
I can't see anywhere that it says that prestige classes don't incur penalties.
Anyone know where it is ?

Since you always get one free class, we should let prestige class count for multyclassing.

You could have a human, halfelf or the appropriate race for that class; and do one prestige class with no problems.

It would only be people with 3 or more classes that have to pay the 20%.

Note at one level down you get about %20 more exp anyway, so will not be much behind others anyway.
